Alicia is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with experience in school settings, private practice, and community work with youth. She personalizes her approach to each person she works with.

I am not the expert on your life; you are the expert on your life. I am merely a temporary passenger helping you navigate this moment in your journey, and hoping ultimately to help you achieve your greatest potential.

Alicia Lucas

Her first goal is to meet each client where they are, starting with their closest relationships and the relationship they hold with themselves. From there, she works alongside clients to highlight and strengthen the tools they already have, so they can build the life they want.

Common questions

Questions, gently answered

Starting therapy comes with practical questions. Here are answers to the ones people ask most.

Ask something else
Do you accept insurance?

Yes. I'm in network with Aetna, BlueChoice HealthPlan HMO, BlueCross and BlueShield, BlueCross and BlueShield of SC, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna and Evernorth, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Optum, Oscar Health, Oxford, Spring Health, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC / UBH). If you don't see your plan, reach out and we can talk through your options.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Not at this time. All sessions are held online, so you can meet from home or anywhere private and comfortable. I'm licensed in, and see clients throughout, South Carolina & Rhode Island.

Who do you work with?

I work with individuals, couples, and families: children (6+), preteens, teens, adults, and older adults (65+). I have a special focus on life transitions; pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum; and marital and premarital counseling.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know you. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, your closest relationships, and what you'd like to be different. You're welcome to share at your own pace, and to ask any questions you have about how therapy works.

Can we talk before booking a session?

Yes. If you'd like to ask a few questions first, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation on request. Call (843) 874-5053 or email alucastherapy@gmail.com, and we'll find a time.

Do you offer Christian counseling?

Yes. For clients who would like their faith to be part of therapy, Christian counseling is available. It's always your choice, and never required.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions, such as when someone's safety is at risk. We'll review these in detail at the start of therapy.

Whenever you're ready

Ready to take the first step?

Reaching out can feel like a big step. When you're ready, request a first session online, give me a call, or send an email, whichever feels easiest.
